Vinho dos Mortos Tinto 2024 – Boticas DOC
Born out of fear – and turned into a myth. During the French Invasions, the inhabitants of Boticas, in Alto Tâmega, buried their wines to prevent them from being plundered by Napoleonic troops. What they found when they unearthed them was surprising: the wines had not only withstood the test of time but had also evolved, gaining unique notes of complexity and balance. Thus, Vinho dos Mortos (Wine of the Dead) was born – christened by history, shaped by the terroir, and matured in the depths of the earth.
Today, the tradition is respected: this red wine is buried and aged in a controlled manner, replicating the temperature and humidity conditions that made the label legendary. Made with Tinta Nacional, Tinta Amarela, and Bastardo grapes, it presents an intense ruby colour, aromas of ripe red fruits, earthy notes, and balsamic touches. On the palate, it surprises with its elegance, polished tannins, good structure, and a long finish that carries memory and identity. A wine with soul – and a story worth drinking.
