Dow’s Late Bottled Vintage 2018
Dow’s Late Bottled Vintage 2018 is a premium Port wine that represents the tradition and excellence of the Dow's house. As an LBV (Late Bottled Vintage) Port, it is a wine from a single harvest (2018), aged in oak barrels for about 4 to 6 years before late bottling. This long period of aging in wood gives the wine remarkable complexity and softness, allowing one to immediately appreciate all the richness of a Vintage Port, but in a more accessible and ready-to-serve style. The tasting notes reveal an intense and enveloping aroma, with wild berries (blackberry, blueberry) and a subtle hint of mint, providing a vibrant freshness.
On the palate, it is full-bodied and balanced, full of ripe black fruit flavours (plum) enveloped by firm tannins with a slight peppery trace and fine acidity – a combination that defines the elegant structure of this Port. The finish is long and dry, a striking characteristic of the Dow's style, leaving nuances of tobacco and tea that prolong the pleasure of the tasting.
Serving Suggestions
Dark chocolate: Desserts based on dark chocolate (such as cakes or mousses) enhance the fruity intensity of the LBV.
Blue cheeses: Classic and elegant, the combination with blue cheeses (e.g., Stilton, Roquefort) balances the sweetness of the Port with the salty and spicy notes of the cheese.
Desserts with dried fruits: Tarts, puddings or sweets with almonds, walnuts or dried figs complement the rich and caramelised notes of this wine.
On its own (meditation wine): It is also excellent to enjoy without accompaniments, calmly appreciating it after a meal as a contemplative wine.
